Current projects
Consistent with my goal of better valuing the main elements of what it means to live well, I am currently engaged in a research agenda which seeks to measure the impact of events using biomarkers as well as self-reports and the benefit that comes from looking forward to events and experiences. In all of this work, I am keenly focussed on identifying the conditions for "oneness" - those moments when we are synchronised with, and feel connected to, those around us.
This work includes the following on-going projects:
The Happiness Experiment with Fatboy Slim
We measured the happiness and the heart rate and heart rate variability of a few hundred ravers. Feeding back this information to the crowd elevated mood and we are currently looking for the key moments in Norman’s' set where heart rates become aligned.
Future Nostalgia
From gigs to parties, festivals to holidays we are seeking to capture the flow of happiness from the moment the tickets are bought to long after the event takes place. We are seeking to monetise the "area under the curve" of happiness so that companies can provide people with the best experience from start to finish.
You Bet
We are working in various aspects of gambling, all with a view to promoting environments for safer gambling that maximises the happiness hit from betting. One project is looking at how the "best" moment might be just before the bet is resolved.
Button Up
In all of this work, we are using new technologies to capture the flow of happiness, including our own bespoke buttons. The possible applications are endless, from schools to raves, hospitals to holidays. Please get in touch for more details.
